Mass Citizenship Revocation

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): of the 31 whose Bahraini citizenship was revoked by a decree made by the Council of the ruling family; one female name was mentioned:  Mariam sayed  Ibrahim Hussain Redha, in her forties and has three sons aged between twelve and twenty-two. The decree included her husband; Abdulnabi Redha al-Moussawi & his brothers, Abdul Amir and Muhammad Ali, all three are activists in “Meshbar” neighborhood in Manama (Matam Sayed  Jafar). “Matam is a place for religious gathering & funerals”

The authors of “ the Matam in Bahrain” noted that the family of al-Moussawi came to Bahrain decades ago, and settled in, and their grandfather Mr. Jaafar Abdul Redha built a matam in Manama since 1942, in the neighborhood named "Meshbar", in Almkhariqah area in Manama which is highly populated, and nearby  the Ministry of Interior  building (al- Qala’a; the Fortress).

When Bahrain News Agency (BNA) published the list of the names whose citizenship was revoked, it was a surprise that the list included names which were not known at the political spectrum, three brothers from al-Musawi family, along with Mariam. The question is: Why specifically those names? Does targeting them carry a message specifically to the Persian community in the capital Manama?

Mr. Mohamed Ali al-Moussawi is now considered the dean of al-Meshber neighborhood, and he deals with all the cases and personal issues of the neighborhood’s residents who are mostly of Persian origin. The family is distant from political activities, at least since the nineties, and is committed to religious activities, and is careful not to mix them up; but this did not prevent the government from targeting them.  Mr. Mohammed al-Musawi manages the family matam, while his brother Mr.AbdulNabi is responsible for “ Sayed Al-Shuhada’a”  mosque. The two brothers were arrested earlier during the beginning of the martial law, while the third brother Sayed Ameer is an enchanter in the Aza (The annual procession mourning Imam Hussein third Shia Imam); who was arrested in the nineties and then released.

The targeting Curse reached  Mariam this time, perhaps because Mariam is the wife of Abdul Nabi al-Moussawi, and maybe because she works  as a translator at the Iranian embassy, or perhaps the intention  is to deliver a message to female Bahraini activists, the famous amateur ones:  No one is exempted from citizenship revocation;so you better watch out!!
