Bahrain Mirror: The Deputy Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq, Sheikh Hussein Al-Daihi, said that the late scholar Sheikh Abdul Amir Al-Jamri "is the symbol of struggle and defense of rights in Bahrain, as he is an unforgettable figure in Bahrain's modern history, a religious scholar and a prominent national leader, who left a deep imprint on the heart and mind of his people."
Sheikh Al-Daihi said on Monday, December 18, 2023, in a statement commemorating the death of Sheikh Al-Jamri, that the late "was an example of a conscious and visionary religious scholar, a voice for the oppressed, and a fierce and courageous defender of human rights demanding political reforms in Bahrain."
"Al-Jamri's stance was firm against injustice and tyranny, which made him a symbol of resistance and struggle against the authorities," he said.
He recalled that "Al-Jamri played, in the 90s, a major role in the popular uprising movement in Bahrain, where he called for political reforms and the reactivation of the 1973 constitution, which guarantees wider participation of the people in governance." "He believed that dialogue and understanding are the ways to achieve positive change," Al-Daihi added.
"Al-Jamri was imprisoned and prosecuted because of his political stances, yet his belief in peaceful struggle and the defence of human rights has not wavered, making him an icon of steadfastness and defiance."
Sheikh Al-Daihi described Al-Jamri as the "Sheikh of patriotism" and stressed that "his national and religious heritage will always remain and we will continue to work to achieve his goals."
