Bahrain Mirror: Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) strongly condemned the arrest of Bahraini historical researcher Jassim Al-Abbas by the Government of Bahrain, over his published video clip in which he talks about his monitoring of the historical context of the emergence of Islam and Shiism in Bahrain, which falls within the framework of his specialty in the field of historical and academic research.
ADHRB expressed in a statement its grave concern regarding the Government of Bahrain arrest of its academics and intellectuals and putting them in prisons solely for sharing the researches they worked on.
It called on the government to "guarantee the right of individuals to express their views in accordance with its domestic and international legal obligations," demanding the immediate release of Al-Abbas.
On November 10, 2023, the Cybercrime Department summoned Jassim by phone, arrested him, and then referred him to the Public Prosecution, on charges of "working to stir up sedition and threaten civil peace." Two days later, the Public Prosecution ordered his detention for a week in the Dry Dock Prison.
