Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): FreeAlKhawaja Campaign posted a tweet via "X" platform announcing that Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja was prevented from visiting the doctor yesterday, despite his urgent need for medical care. The campaign attached a video for Al-Khawaja's daughter telling the details.

Zaynab said in the video: "My father letting me know this morning that he has resumed his hunger strike. Yesterday, the prison administration made promises to the hundreds of political prisoners on hunger strike that the conditions in prison are going to improve."

"However, this morning and as for many months now, my father was not taken to an appointment that he had in the hospital today. My father faces high risk of getting a heart attack and he needs to see a cardiologist, but he was not taken to that appointment on the 28th August," she confirmed.

Zaynab added: "My father also faces a risk of eye sight loss and blindness if his glaucoma is not treated by an eye doctor, that is the appointment he had today and was not taken to," stressing that "We, as family of Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, live in constant fear that my father could go blind or could die in prison."

Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja resumed yesterday (Wednesday) his hunger strike after the authorities refused to take him to his scheduled appointment.

Maryam Al-Khawaja, Abudlhadi's daughter, had previously announced in a tweet that she is going to return to Bahrain to demand the release of her father and other prisoners of conscience, although she is risking her freedom. A number of activists announced that they will be joining Maryam Al-Khawaja in traveling to Bahrain, including Agnès Callamard, the Secretary General of Amnesty International.
