Bahrain Mirror: The spokesman for the "Prisoners' Affairs Authority in Bahrain ", Jaafar Yahya, revealed that prisoner of conscience in the Central Jaw Prison, Sheikh Mirza Al-Mahrous, "almost died" due to his health deterioration, stressing that the authorities returned him to prison without completing the necessary medical treatment after spending 7 days in the military hospital.
Yahya said, in a post on "X" platform, that "family of Sheikh Al-Mahrous confirmed the deterioration of his health condition before he was transferred to the military hospital" and said that "he can only walk with a crutch."
He added that "Sheikh Al-Mahrous suffers from an internal bleeding in the colon, and has undergone 5 surgeries since his arrest in 2011 until the moment," adding that, "Currently, His Eminence cannot get up from the bed alone, and he also suffers from chronic diseases such as colon, diabetes, heart disease and high levels of cholesterol."
While stressing "the exacerbation of these diseases as a result of medical negligence during the period of his detention," he cited several reasons that led to the deterioration of his health condition, namely: the systematic and severe torture he was subjected to for several months, medical negligence and procrastination by the Ministry of Interior in providing follow-up and health care and not providing him healthy meals.
The Sheikh's family called on the Bahraini authorities to "provide him with adequate health care and regular medication and immediately release him", and appealed to human rights bodies, media and human rights organizations to "urgently intervene and shed light on his situation to save his life."
Sheikh Mirza Al-Mahrous, 58, is one of the prominent opposition leaders who was arrested in March and April 2011 for his activism in the widespread protests that erupted in the country in February 2011 demanding democratic transition and ending oppression and sectarian discrimination.
