Bahrain Mirror: The number of political prisoners on hunger strike in Jaw Central Prison reached more than 743, as of Sunday, August 20, 2023, according to the director of the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD), Sayed Ahmed Al-Wadaei.
Al-Wadaei confirmed via "X" platform that the detained figures are committed to returning their daily meals to the prisoners' administration in solidarity with the hunger strikers.
The detainees launched an open hunger strike on Monday, August 7, 2023, to demand their rights that the authorities continue to violate with unfair decisions such as isolation, denying them of the right to education and neglecting their health care, as well as the system of visits and congregational prayer.
A number of detainees fainted as a result of their hunger strike and some were taken to hospital.
A few days ago, Al-Wefaq Society confirmed that "the families of the detainees are deeply concerned about the health of their sons and the continued disregard for their humanitarian demands."
