Bahrain Mirror: The Deputy Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq, Sheikh Hussein Al-Daihi, confirmed that "negotiations between the detainees and Jaw Prison administration in Bahrain have not achieved any progress so far," as the detainees' open hunger strike enters its second week.
"This reflects the authorities' failure to respond to the demands of political detainees," Al-Daihi told Al-Mayadeen, stressing that "the determination and will shown by the prisoners reflect the escalating pressures and suffering they live daily."
He stated "The persecution and repression experienced by political prisoners in Bahrain behind bars is reflected in the escalating number of participants in the strike and the escalation of concern about their conditions."
"This strike reflects the lack of all means of expression in Bahrain, and is not just an escalation of demands but a clear message that human rights and fundamental freedoms cannot be compromised," he added.
Al-Daihi called on the Bahraini authorities to "end the repression and achieve the just and necessary demands of the detainees on hunger strike, and their right to freedom unconditionally," stressing that "Al-Wefaq stands by them."
