Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq media official, Sayed Taher Al-Mousawi, said that the Bahraini regime arrested preacher of Friday sermon at the Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque in Diraz, Sheikh Mohammad Sanqour, over charge of inciting against Zionists.
Al-Mousawi said in a tweet that "the arrest of Sheikh Sanqour came one day after the Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister called the Bahraini government."
Al-Wefaq posted a tweet saying "his Eminence (Sheikh Sanqour) is accused, according to General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, of inciting against and defaming a sect, after denouncing, in his Friday sermon, the official decision to change the curricula and deleting everything related to Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque."
The authorities referred Sheikh Sanqour to the Public Prosecution after summoning him to the CID on Monday (May 22, 2023).
The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science claimed that Sanqour was summoned for repeating inciting sermons that violate the law, referring to his Friday sermons. The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation claimed that the violations included defaming authorities and publicly inciting against and defaming a sect.
Sheikh Sanqour's arrest came one day after the Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen called his Bahraini counterpart Abdullatif Al-Zayani.
The Bahraini Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement that Al-Zayani and Cohen "reviewed relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Israel, as well as ways to broaden them in order to achieve common interests."
