Bahrain Mirror: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) said that it had launched an investigation following a notification from both the Public Prosecution and the Office of the Ombudsman regarding the allegations by some inmates, who claimed that they had been physically mistreated by the Public Security forces, after they (prison guards) took measures of searching and organizing inmates cells in the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre in Jaw prison.
The SIU said in a statement on Thursday (May 18, 2023) said that it launched the investigation as soon as it received the notification, indicating that it heard the inmates' statements and ordered their examination by the SIU forensic examiner, requested the inmates' medical reports, if there are any, and collected CCTV camera recording of the incident.
The SIU assigned its judicial police to investigate into the incident to uncover its circumstances, adding that investigations are underway.
