Bahrain Mirror: The director of the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD), Sayed Ahmed Al-Wadaei, confirmed that calls between political prisoners in Jaw prison and their families are still cut off until Tuesday (May 16, 2023), as a result of the assault incident against prisoner which took place two days ago.
Jaw Prison guards attacked on Sunday (May 14, 2023) political prisoners who are sentenced to death, injuring a number of them.
The guards took the two political prisoners, Mohammad Ramadan and Hussein Marzouq, to an unknown place outside building No. 6, and stormed the building under the pretext of searching and sabotaged the prisoners' belongings, Sayed Ahmed Al-Wadaei, revealed in a tweet.
The inmates protested against the guards' sabotaging of their belongings. However, the guards responded to the inmates with violent beatings, which led to the injury of a number of prisoners.
Al-Wadaei noted the recurrence of assaults on political prisoners in 2023, explaining that the attack on prisoners on Sunday was the second in terms of seriousness since the attack on prisoners in Building No. 3 in January 2023.
The Ombudsman had issued a statement saying that it "immediately launched its investigations" regarding what it claimed was "a deliberate disruption and impeding of the procedures and violation of the instructions by a number of inmates in Jaw prison during inspection and organization in the center."
It said that it will later issue a detailed statement that includes the findings of its investigations into these incidents and allegations.
