Bahrain Mirror: King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, sent written letters to leaders of Qatar, Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait ahead of a Gulf summit in Saudi Arabia.
While the Saudi Press Agency didn't mention the date of the summit, the Qatari Press Agency said that the summit will be held later in December.
The letters were delivered by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, and they generally focus on "strengthening relations" between Riyadh and these four Gulf capitals, the SPA reported.
The Gulf Cooperation Council was founded in 1981 and it comprises six countries: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.
King Salman's letters were sent to the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Kuwait's Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber al-Sabah, according to the agency.
The Saudi news agency did not explain the reason for the letters, but Kuwait's official news agency (KUNA) reported that during the meeting between the Crown Prince and Saudi Foreign Minister, Riyadh invited Kuwait to attend the 42nd Gulf summit.
The Qatari official news agency also reported that the letter received by the Emir included an invitation to attend the Gulf summit in Saudi Arabia in December.
The Bahraini news agency stated that the Saudi foreign minister delivered a message to his Bahraini counterpart as part of his tour of the GCC states.
Saudi Arabia hosted the 41st Gulf Summit that ended one of the most difficult Gulf political crisis since the founding of the GCC.
On January 5, the signing of a reconciliation agreement was announced at that summit (Al-Ula Summit) which ended a dispute through which Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut off their relations with Qatar.
