Bahrain Mirror: A large company owned by a former Bahraini minister that works in the field of electricity services has stopped paying the salaries of all its 1,200 employees and workers for three months, a local newspaper said, quoting trade union sources.
The company did not meet a pledge it signed with the Ministry of Labor to pay due salaries for November, December and January before February 7, 2019, the sources said.
Among the employees and workers of the company are about 60 Bahraini nationals.
The employees contacted by the newspaper confirmed that they submitted a complaint to the Ministry of Labor to solve the salaries issue before they accumulate for many months and become a heavy debt that would be difficult to pay off, noting that the Ministry contacted the company and during meetings with officials, they promised to solve the problem and pay the arrears, but nothing was done.
The employees stressed that they suffer from very difficult living conditions since the past three months they spent without pay.
"We have families that we support, and we are responsible for providing the basics necessities of life for our families, and some of us are committed to paying rent for their homes and have other obligations," they said.
They added that if the company does not pay the due salaries, this will accumulate their monthly rent payments or installments of bank loans, pointing out that non-payment will cause the bank to record their names on the blacklist, thus depriving them in the future of getting any loan from any commercial bank.
