King Hamad Directs to Reconsider Controversial Retirement Law

Bahrain Mirror: King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa directed the government to reconsider the controversial retirement law, after a dispute between the House of Representatives and Shua Council and dissatisfaction among large segment of citizens.
An official statement said that the king received the Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Speaker Ahmed Al Mulla and Shura Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh. Bases on this meeting, the King directed the government to reconsider the two bills of pension and retirement laws in cooperation with the parliament, taking into consideration all views and remarks expressed during discussions at the Shura and Representatives Councils as well as views expressed by citizens, columnists and journalists across the various media.
The new retirement law gives ultimate powers to the retirement fund board in determining premiums, pension salaries and years of service.
Shura council agreed in consensus on the law. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives rejected the law and its legislative committee considered it unconstitutional.
