Bahrain Mirror: The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) said the distinctive identity card number service that has been recently announced is found since 4 years and it is only for newborn babies.
It explained in a statement that this service is not new and is already found under the same previous fees.
It added "This service is optional to citizens wishing to obtain special numbers for their newborn children. This service is not mandatory and is limited to newborns only, thus, it does not constitute any additional financial burden on citizens." The iGA pointed out that citizens can't change their identity numbers as some think.
"These optional charges are not mandatory. People who wish to choose special identity card number for their newborns, so that it can be memorized easily, are the ones to pay. There is no discrimination between people holding special numbers and others in any government application or others," the Information & eGovernment Authority further stated.
