Bahrain Mirror: The executive regulation of Decree Law No. 25 of 2015 on the collection of construction cost and development of infrastructure, revealed that a BD 12 is imposed on each meter square of construction area, for any premises, whether residential, commercial, or investment.
The new fees are said to be part of "cost recovery decree", and building permits are not provided unless the fees are paid, according to local newspaper al-Bilad.
On the same level, the newspaper said that a 250 meter square house and land, with a total area of 300 meter square, should have the total area multiplied by BD 12 (300 × 12), and the total amount of fees to be collected would be BD 3600.
Moreover, the daily noted that the law was implemented without giving investors a grace period, which caused the disruption of many investment projects in all Bahraini governorates. Among these projects were two big projects, one of which found itself before BD 300 thousand in fees that did not exist before.
The said fees are imposed on any second or more premises or property, while the first property is exempted.
Al-Bilad daily said that this law was passed by the parliament around a year ago, and was announced in the official gazette in its recently published issue number 3317.
