Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini authorities released Taiba Ismail after spending one whole year in prison over tweets deemed insulting to King of Bahrain.

The security apparatuses raided the house of the e-activist on the dawn of Sunday (June 26, 2016) and arrested her over insulting the King through tweets after identifying her account. The Bahraini jurisdiction sentenced the tweeter to one year in prison and 1000 BD fine in a political case.

Ismail's trial over the charge of insulting the King started on August. Taiba appeared before the judge and demanded her release for being a mother of two children who are under 2 years and supporter of her widow mother.

Authorities claim that they received a notice from the directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic stating that "a Twitter user insulted the king and posted malicious tweets that undermine Bahrain's security and stability.

Authorities said that investigations of security apparatuses discovered that the suspect is the owner of the account and that she confessed that charge attributed to her after her arrest.

In another session, Taiba admitted before the judge the charges brought against her and demanded mercy. The court, however, had sentenced her on August 31, 2016 for a whole year and 1000 BD fine. The Appeals court upheld the verdict on October 19, 2016.
