Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Supreme Court of Appeals upheld 6-month jail term against a suspect in a case linked to assembling and burning tires in Salmabad.
The Bahraini Fourth High Criminal Court had handed down 6-month jail term to 3 suspects over burning tires in Salmabad.
The authorities claim that on April 7, 2016, the suspects, along with other unknowns, set fire to 5 tires in Street 12 in Salmabad and fled away.
The security authorities allege that they reached the suspects through investigations and that the first suspect admitted after his arrest that he, along with the other suspects, committed the crime.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
