Bahrain Mirror: Member of the Bahraini Special Investigation Unit, Ibrahim al-Kawari, said that the unit completed its investigations in one of the cases referred to them by the Department of Reform and Rehabilitation. This case included complaints by some prisoners stating that members of the police force assaulted and tortured them, while serving a freedom-depriving imprisonment sentence.

The unit decided to refer three members of the police force to the fifth Minor Criminal Court over charges of "assaulting the bodily integrity of another person". The unit requested that they'd be punished on the basis of articles 4/75, 1/107, 1/339 and 2 of the Penal Code. A hearing was scheduled to be held on November 24, 2016, in order to look into this case.

Al-Kuwari said that the unit had received, during the month of August, 26 complaints that varied between allegations of torture and ill-treatment, and the unit began its investigations in all of those complaints.

Regarding the statistical work of the unit over the past month, the unit listened to the statements of 89 victims, while 60 suspects of the security forces were interrogated. Five victims were referred to the forensic physician to be checked for bruises and injuries, while 3 others were referred to the psychiatrist for psychological examination.
