Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Jaffaria Endowments Directorate (Waqf) denied that it filed a complaint against the prominent Bahraini cleric Sheikh Mohammad Al-Masni, who was recently sentenced to one year in prison, rejecting what it claimed to be "fake allegations and deliberate insults" made by lawyer Jassim Serhan.
The directorate further stated that the lawyer's statements "are inaccurate and insult the waqf," stressing that "it did not file any complaint over the content of a sermon delivered in Fatima Al-Zahraa Mosque in Hamad Town and that it has no body assigned to monitor the contents of sermons," stressing that this is among the duties of other state bodies.
It also explained that the directorate does not interfere in the assignment of Imams for mosques, although it has the legal right to do so. The Jaffaria Endowments was keen to negotiate with the citizens in this regard, it claimed, stressing that it did not issue any decision preventing anyone from preaching.
The Jaffaria Endowments called on clerics and Imams of mosques "to commit to the ethics of religious speech and steer clear from all politicized discourses and practice their role to improve national cohesion as well as the human and brotherly spirit and peaceful coexistence between all factions of society."
