Bahrain Mirror: Detainees at Dry Dock Prison said that the prison's administration is avoiding to meet their demands that they had asked for, following a one-month hunger strike.

Dry Dock Prisoners went on a hunger strike for about 2 months, demanding the authorities to remove the glass barrier that separates them from their families during family visits or allow them at least one visit in a month without the glass barrier.

The detainees said in a statement on Tuesday (April 26, 2016) that the prison officers "do not communicate with the detainees in order to avoid the questions concerning meeting the demands".

"The chief of Dry Dock Prison Lieutenant Abdullah Al-Shehi knows about the strike and demands and he promised to meet them. Chief Deputy, Hisham Al-Zayyani, announced that he is the one responsible and entrusted with meeting the demands; however, he has done nothing to date," they added.

"During the strike, the families told the National Institution for Human Rights about the demands which it described as just and legitimate. The institution also promised to contact the inmates, yet it did no such thing.  We also informed the competent party about the inmates grievances in details, but we saw no reaction in return. This makes us wonder is there a real competent party that follows the inmates' rights and is it capable of holding the parties that fail to perform their duties accountable?" stressed the prisoners.

The prisoners concluded their statement by stating that the prison's administration and competent parties shall bear full responsibility for not meeting the inmates' demands, noting that the administration is responsible for any step taken in this regard and the dangerous consequences thereof.
