Bahraini Appeals Court: Two Suspects Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison over Sitra Hoax Bomb

Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Appeals Court upheld the sentence issued against two appellants to imprison them for three years over charges of planting a hoax bomb in the Sitra area.
The Public Prosecution had accused them of carrying and planting, along with other unknown suspects, hoax explosives in a public place on August 12, 2014, for terrorist purposes.
The authorities claimed that the defendants committed this act to disturb public security and stability, intimidate security forces, disrupt traffic, and terrorize citizens and residents.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against the defendants, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
