Bahrain Mirror: The European-Bahraini Organization for Human Rights (EBOHR) said that detainees held in cell-block 10 in the pre-trial detention unit in Dry Dock prison were subjected to humiliating searching procedures before matters developed into verbal quarrels between the detainees and prison officers who started beating each other.

EBOHR stressed that no information was reported about detainee Khalil Al-Halwachi after the prison's authorities took him out of his prison cell on Thursday (January 14, 2016) for protesting against the humiliating treatment and abuse the detainees were subjected to while being searching, as some of them were beaten and their belongings were sabotaged.

The detainees protested outside their cells against the maltreatment and refused to eat. They also refused to enter their cells before the authorities brought back Al-Halwachi who suffers from blood clot risk, EBOHR further stated.

The human rights organization went on to say that Fatima Al-Halwachi, the head of the Monitoring and Documentation department in EBOHR and daughter of detainee Khalil Al-Halwachi, went to Dry Dock prison and after waiting for about an hour outside the building without being allowed to see him, she received a short phone call from him affirming that violations took place inside the cell-block.
