Bahrain Mirror: Member of the Bahraini Special Investigation Unit Mohammad Khaled Al-Hazza'a said that the sentence issued against the two policemen was harshened over beating Isa Ibrahim Saqer who died as a result.
"The High Criminal Court had handed down on March 12, 2015, a 10-year prison sentence. The suspects then appealed, and the Court of Appeals commuted the sentence to 2 years", he added.
"Accordingly, the SIU studied the causes of the sentence and concluded that there is a need to harshen the penalty due to the presence of the legal grounds. Thus, it challenged the verdict and the Court of Cassation decided in its hearing held on December 1, 2015; to accept the appeal of the Special Investigation Unit, abolish the sentence of the Court of Appeals, and to reconsider the case", he further added.
"Implementing the verdict of the Court of Cassation, the case was looked into again, as the Court of Appeals deliberated it and amended on Monday (January 4, 2016) the sentence to 7 years in prison instead of 2. The two accused policemen were thus arrested", he said.
