Bahrain Mirror: The president of Salam for Democracy and Human Rights, Jawad Fairooz, said during a press conference held by three human rights organizations on Thursday (February 13, 2020) in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, entitled, "Evaluation of violations during 2019 in Bahrain," that the international community is required to oblige the government of Bahrain to adhere to the human rights obligations and international conventions it has ratified.

He explained that "the repercussions of the continuing political and human rights crisis in Bahrain, the rise in the frequency of serious violations in various human rights areas, the perpetuation of political tyranny in the country, the spread of sectarian discrimination and religious persecution, and the suppression of freedoms and political isolation require the international community to oblige Bahrain to stick to its human rights commitments and international conventions it ratified and to implement UPR recommendations since 2008 to date, including the BICI recommendations, which the government accepted in November 2011."

Fairooz noted that the authorities arrested 9 clerics in the past week and that the authorities are practicing systematic religious persecution, especially against their Shiite citizens, pointing out that a large number of opposition leaders in the prison are suffering from a poor health conditions.
