Bahrain Mirror: Execution Prosecution head Mohammed Al-Musallam said that the prosecution agreed to replace the prison sentences of 75 prisoners and apply alternative sentences against them.
He explained that the prosecution studied cases of 75 prisoners who had served half of their prison terms, as well as those whose other conditions stipulated in the law are applied on them, and then took the measures prescribed by law. The prosecution presented the order to the judge who issued his decision to exchange their prison term with society services and other alternative punishments.
The authorities began to expand the application of alternative punishment law under directives from King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, but the law is rarely applied on the political detainees whose number exceeds 4000, according to human rights groups.
