Bahrain Spent 17 Million BD on Social Security Beneficiaries Last Year

Bahrain Mirror: Official statistics revealed that total state expenditure on social security beneficiaries from 2007 to 2019 amounted to about a quarter of a billion Bahraini dinars.

Recent statistics indicate that there were 16,949 beneficiaries of social security aid until May of this year, with a total of BD 17 million annually.

The statistics show that 16,209 citizens benefited from the social security, with a total of 17,033,605 dinars in 2018, while 15,354 citizens benefited with a total of 15,620,950 dinars in 2017.

While annual assistance since 2007 until 2016 ranged between 15,082,760 dinars and 20,656,034. It included all age groups set by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, starting from 0-9 months to 100-150 years.

The statistics of the annual statistical guide of the Ministry of Labor and Development show that the majority of the beneficiaries of the social support under the social security reside in the northern governorate with over 5,000 beneficiaries, while the southern governorate has the least amount of beneficiaries with over 2,000.

Figures indicate a cessation of aid in 1,472 cases, registration of 1,773 new cases of social security, 116 of which rejected and 647 of which benefited.

Social security assistance is provided for families in need, based on the criteria and conditions of eligibility for social security of all categories that do not have a sufficient source of income to depend on for their livelihood. They include, families in need, widows, divorcees, abandoned women, the elderly, families of prisoners, the unemployed, children, and orphans.
