Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa said that the number of corruption cases filed by the Financial and Administrative National Audit Office, which the Public Prosecution has began investigating, has reached 178 in the past five years, 129 of which have been closed.

In response to a parliamentary question on the number of cases filed by the NAO on criminal offenses, the Minister said that based on the information provided by the Public Prosecution, the Public Prosecution has referred 26 cases of corruption to the judiciary. In 23 of the cases, there were convictions, ruling penalties against the perpetrators, while a person was acquitted in one case.

The Minister explained that prosecution is still ongoing in two corruption cases, while 13 cases are still under investigation, noting that 129 cases have been closed, since some constituted administrative violations or a crime being committed was ruled out. He added that the Public Prosecution has addressed the administrative authorities concerned in these cases.
