Bahrain Mirror: Amnesty International said that detainee Hajar Mansour, mother-in-law of activist Sayed Ahmed Al-Wadaie, is prevented from undergoing comprehensive medical tests requested by the doctor, who examined her last month, due to suffering a lump in her breast.
The organization said that Hajar, whose 3-year jail term was upheld by the Cassation Court few days ago in retaliation to her son-in-law activism abroad, was not informed of the results of her medical tests, despite her fears that she has cancer.
Hajer was taken to the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital. She was informed that the lump in herbreast was a non-cancerous cyst for which the doctor requested in writing that further tests be carried outimmediately, including urgent x-rays. Against this medical advice, the officers accompanying her to the hospital returned her to the prison without attempting to arrange for any further medical examination, including the x-rays,to be carried out.
Hajar was taken to the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital following an international outcry. Against this medical advice, the officers accompanying her to the hospital returned her to the prison without attempting to arrange for any further medical examination, including the x-rays, to be carried out.
Amnesty believes that Hajer Mansoor is a prisoner of conscience, who was convicted in an unfair trial aiming at putting pressure on Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei. It called on the Bahraini authorities to ensure that Hajar Mansour's conviction and sentence are quashed and that she is immediately and unconditionally released. The organization further called upon to order the prison authorities to ensure that, pending her release, Hajar is granted access to adequate medical care as necessary and in a timely manner.
It urged all its supports and activists to write appeals to the Bahraini Minister of Interior Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa
