Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq former MP Ali Al-Aswad said that "lthe ife term sentences are the clearest examples on farce of justice in Bahrain".

Al-Aswad commented on the verdict issued against Sheikh Ali Salman, Sheikh Hasan Sultan and him on his Twitter account saying "let's be clear, these accusations were ridiculous. It is tragic that these accusations could keep Al-Wefaq Secretary-General in prison for the rest of his life."

He explained that Sheikh Ali Salman was due to be released within two months, after serving a 4-year jail term which was also issued against him over fake charges.

Al-Aswad said that the authority in Bahrain "will not stop at this level and will do anything to silence the opposition," noting that all of this is happening amid calls to participate in elections.

"Some people in the international community are asking us why we reject such elections. We can't understand why you are silent towards the case of Al-Wefaq Secretary-General? Why don't you call for his immediate release?" the former MP further stated.

Ali Al-Aswad concluded saying "we are talking about an opposition leader who once stopped his speechduring a protest to ask protestors not to chant slogans to overthrow the regime. Meanwhile, most of opposition leaders are still being jailed."

Bahrain's Appeals Court issued on Sunday (November 4, 2018) a life term sentence against Al-Wefaq secretary-general Sheikh Ali Salman and overturned the acquittal verdict issued by the Supreme Court. It also sentence Al-Wefaq 2 former MPs Sheikh Hassan Sultan and Ali Al-Aswad to life in jail over charge of colluding with Qatar.
