Appeal Court: 12 Defendants Sentenced from 3 Years Up to life imprisonment for Detonating Bomb in Diraz

Bahrain Mirror: The first Bahraini High Court of Appeal upheld a life sentence against three appellants, as well as upholding a five-year prison sentence of another, all convicted in the case involving a bomb blast and attempted murder of police in Al-Diraz in 2014.
The Court also sentenced six defendants to three years instead of five and commuted the life sentence of one of the defendants to 15 years imprisonment, while ruling that the appeals of two appelents were not valid, one of which was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and the other to three years.
The Public Prosecution accused defendants 8, 20 and 29 of having possession of and acquiring fireworks without a permit for terrorist purposes, and used the fireworks in a manner that would endanger people's lives and properties.
The Public Prosecution charged the first defendant with training on the use of explosives to commit terrorist crimes and the 30th defendant with training on the use of weapons and ammunition for the purpose of using them for committing terrorist offenses and the 21st defendant with promoting acts that constituted crimes for a terrorist purpose, and the group of defendants between 1 and 27 with participating, along with unknown individuals, in a gathering of more than five people for the purpose of committing crimes and harming public security using violence to achieve the purpose for which they gathered.
The Prosecution's charges against the defendants, from 1 to 27, included that they had had possession of and acquired, along with unknown others, flammable and explosive materials, and used them to endanger people's lives and properties. "They also deliberately damaged movable properties owned by a salon in Diraz and put the lives and security of the people at risk for a terrorist purpose."
