Bahrain Mirror: UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, said that the UK government raised the case of opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman at a senior level with the Government of Bahrain, on the eve of the verdict issuance against him over claims of colluding with Qatar.
This came in an answer to a question raised by the UK MP, Alex Norris, on June 12, 2018, on whether the UK government has made representations to the Bahraini Government on the prosecution of Bahraini opposition leader, Sheikh Ali Salman; and if Burt will make a statement.
"We have raised this case at a senior level with the Government of Bahrain. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and our Embassy in Bahrain continue to monitor Sheikh Ali Salman's case closely," said Burt.
He further stated "Embassy officials have regularly attended trial hearings. We continue to encourage the Government of Bahrain to deliver on its international and domestic human rights commitments."
