Bahrain Mirror: United Nations High Commissioner Zeid bin Ra'ad Al-Hussein said that Bahraini refused "unconditional access by my Office and the Special Procedures" to Bahrain, amid continued crackdowns on civil society and additional legislation which further restricts the people's fundamental rights.
In his final speech, before his term in office ends, the high commissioner called on Bahrain, during the 38th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, to "reverse these profoundly damaging trends". "My Office stands ready to provide technical and legal expertise," he further stated.
The Jordanian Prince announced previously that he would not seek a second term as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
