Cassation Military Court Upholds Death Penalty of 4 Bahrainis on charges of “Attempted Assassination of Marshal

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Bahraini Military Court of Cassation on Wednesday morning (25 April 2018) upheld the death sentences issued against four Bahraini civilians convicted of the assassination of Marshal Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.

Mubarak Adel Mubarak Mhanna, Fadel Sayed Abbas Hassan Radhi, Sayed Alawi Hussein Alawi Hussain, Mohamed Abdulhassen Ahmed Al-Matghawi, Mohammed Abdulhussain Saleh Al-Shihabi, Mohammed Abdulwahed Mohammed Al-Najjar and Hussein Mohammed Ahmed Shihab all challenged the verdicts issued against them in the case that has been marred by many errors, which have been the focus of criticism of the United Nations and international human rights organizations.

The Military Court of Appeal had upheld on February 21, 2018 the rulings of the First Instance Military Court, which on December 25, 2017 sentenced to death Mubarak Adel Mubarak Mhanna, Fadel Sayed Abbas Hassan Radhi, Sayed Alawi Hussein Alawi Hussain, Mohamed Abdulhassen Ahmed Al-Matghawi, Sayed Murtada Majid Ramadan Alawi (Al-Sindi), Sheikh Habib Abdullah Hassan Ali (Al-Jamri), also sentencing them to 15 years in prison and stripping them of their Bahraini nationalities.

The First Instance Court also sentenced to seven years' imprisonment Mohammed Abdulhussain Saleh Al-Shihabi, Mohammed Abdulwahed Mohammed Al-Najjar, Hussain Mohammed Ahmed Shihab, Mohammad Yousif Marhoon Al-Ajmi, Hussein Ali Mohsen Badaw, Sayed Mohammed Qasim Mohammed, Ali Jaafar Hassan Al Rayes, also stripping them of their citizenships, while acquitting Ali Ahmed Khalifa Salman (Al-Karbabadi), Hussein Isam Hussein Al-Dirazi, Motazer Fawzi Abdulkarim Mahdi, Rami Ahmed Ali Al-Areesh, Mohammad Abdullah Ibrahim Abbas.
