Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini court issued on Wednesday (March 21, 2018) 2-months jail term in absentia against Duaa Al-Wadaei, wife of the Director of the UK-based Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, over "insulting an officer".

BIRD stressed in a statement that Duaa did not receive any formal notification of the charges against her until her conviction.

For his part, human rights activist said in an article he published in the British "The Guardian" that his wife was handed prison sentence due to his opposing activism, particularly because he protested in London when the King of Bahrain visited Downing Street in 2016.

The security authorities have already targeted Al-Wadaei's family because of his opposing human rights activism. His wife's brother and mother (Hajar Mansour) are serving jail sentences in malicious cases, human rights organizations confirm.
