Al-Sayegh from Prison: I Won’t Lose Hope or Surrender to Fear, Pursuing the Torturers is My Priority

Bahrain Mirror: Detained human rights activist Ebtisam Al-Sayegh sent a letter from inside prison addressing the people of Bahrain to wish them a happy Eid Adha.
In her letter, Al-Sayegh stressed on her commitment to pursue those involved in her torture, stressing that her activism is not an option, but rather a human instinct that rejects injustice and degrading treatment.
The letter reads as follows:
Every year we hope that the world will live in peace and harmony so that holidays would be better. I wish that all Muslims remain adherent to the principles of the Seal of Prophets and Messengers (Mohammad) as well as the values established by the Holy Quran, united each year. I also wish my imprisoned people a happy Eid, in this time that no Bahrani house has been left to celebrate these holidays and no longer the laughter of children are heard, since grief has occupied all.
Here I am deprived of freedom, of my family and loved ones, and far from the victims who have placed their trust in me, which was not a choice of mine, but something imposed on me in order to conceal the painful truth. The reality is so harsh that it can not be polished. Sincere and conscious efforts are required to demand the implementation of recommendations and respect of conventions, mainly holding torturers accountable.
My activism is not an option, but rather a instinct of every human being who rejects injustice, the destruction of dignity, and supports the victims. Thus, I will not back down, especially as I rely on a law that supports humanity. Today I am more determined than yesterday. My dignity has been attacked by a group of criminals that I will never forgive. Holding them accountable is one of my priorities.
I will not lose hope and I will not slip into depression, fear and hesitation. Putting an end to violations committed in my beloved homeland will give the holidays a true meaning of joy which will reflect on everyone.
Happy Eid from my cell
