NSA Summons Sheikh Hassan Sultan’s Son for 4th Time in Less than a Week

2017-06-29 - 3:35 am

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's National Security Apparatus (NSA) (the intelligence apparatus) summoned again (Monday June 26, 2017) Mohammad, the son of Sheikh Hassan Sultan, prominent al-Wefaq members and former al-Wefaq MP. This is the fourth time Mohammad is summoned in less than a week, and he hasn't been released yet.

Sultan was subjected to torture when he was first summoned for interrogations by the NSA last Thursday (June 22, 2017), in an attempt to recruit him to work for the intelligence agency. Airport authorities also banned Mohammad from leaving the country. He was then summoned on Friday to the NSA building, where he remained more than 14 hours in custody in the Muharraq-based building.

Around 10 hours after he was released early Saturday dawn (June 24, 2017), Sultan was summoned for the third time, and his lawyer was not allowed to accompany him during the interrogations.

After the raid on Diraz last May, the Bahraini NSA started a vast campaign to recruit activists. The security compound in Muharraq has summoned many activists, who revealed to Mirror Bahrain details about the torture and sexual harassment they were subjected to in order to stop their activities and work for the security services.

Bahrain TV aired this week what it claimed to be calls between Sheikh Hassan Sultan and a Qatari official during the 2011 protests, plotting to overthrow the regime, while the parliament and state media called for punishing those whose names were mentioned in the phone calls.
