Bahrain Mirror - Exclusive: A worker at the Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) company, said that the company suffered a real disaster on Wednesday evening (April 5, 2017) after an hours-long power outage that caused it to lose almost half its production till the next day.

According to inside information, the flaw was caused due to a new power plant that stopped worker, and thus posing pressure on the rest of the power generators. The latter therefore stopped working due to the excessive pressure, thus causing the loss in electric current for hours.

The company opened a technical investigation concerning the reasons behind the accident, while losses were not contained in numbers yet. However, according to preliminary information, the company lost, due to the power outage, more than 80 aluminum containers.

Information added that the most damaged line is the fifth line, which is responsible for the production of half of Alba's output.

With the power outage, Alba became in a state of emergency, and with the help of the workers, was able to restore the production of 50% of its output of aluminum only.

On August 23, 2004, Alba caused a power outage in Bahrain, known as the Black Monday, paralyzing the country's economic and trade movement for more than a day.

Based on latest numbers, Alba currently produces around 850 thousand meter tons annually, making it one of the biggest aluminum manufacturer in the world. Alba is mostly owned by the Bahraini Government.
