March 20 Set for First Hearing in Justice Ministry Lawsuit to Dissolve “Wa’ad” Society

2017-03-08 - 3:13 am

Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini daily newspaper al-Wasat reported that the major administrative court said it scheduled next March 20 date for first hearing on dissolving the National Democratic Action Society "Wa'ad". This comes after the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Endowments filed a lawsuit demanding the dissolution of "Wa'ad".

The Ministry of Justice had announced Monday (March 6, 2017) that it had filed a lawsuit demanding the dissolution of "Wa'ad", claiming that it had perpetrated "serious violations targeting the principle of respecting the rule of law, supporting terrorism and sanctioning violence by glorifying people convicted for terrorism cases."

Last year, the administrative court ruled the dissolution of al-Wefaq Society, Bahrain's biggest opposition associations. This also came after the Justice Ministry filed a lawsuit, accusing al-Wefaq of supporting and glorifying terrorism. This move was then met with sharp criticism from the United Nations and Bahrain's most prominent ally, the United States.
