Bahrain Mirror: Deputy Secretary General of al-Wefaq Islamic National Society, Sheikh Hussein al-Daihi, said that the authorities' decision to dissolve the National Democratic Action Society "Wa'ad" is evidence to "the absence of political rationality".

In a statement (Tuesday March 7, 2017) responding to the Ministry of Justice demand to dissolve "Wa'ad", Sheikh al-Daihi confirmed that it is "more than just a political society, and its national project cannot be limited to a building or headquarters". He stressed that "Wa'ad" is "a pillar of the political and national action."

Moreover, al-Wefaq Deputy SG confirmed his party's stance with "Wa'ad" in "delivering their people's demands." "Our message is that today, we are stronger than ever, and the regime is defeated, and wanders in reckless measures. Our people's cause is a fair and rightful cause, and their just demands ought to be met, despite the dictatorship tyranny", Sheikh al-Daihi said in his report. He reiterated that dissolving al-Wefaq and "Wa'ad" will only defeat the regime.

The authorities have launched the harshest campaign ever against the opposition since last year, through dissolving al-Wefaq Society; Bahrain's biggest opposition association, and revoking the citizenship of the Shiite majority spiritual leader, Sheikh Isa Qassim.

Furthermore, in the aforementioned campaign, the authorities doubled the prison sentence against opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman to 9 years, detained prominent activist Nabeel Rajab, and banned dozens of activists from leaving the country. These measures were met with sharp criticism from the United Nations and Bahrain's most prominent ally, the United States.
