Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Court of Appeal upheld a 7-year prison verdict against a defendant in a case linked to burning tires and planting a fake bomb in the Bahraini town Tubli.

The court convicted the defendant for causing a fire, along with others, on January 16, 2016, which endangered the lives of people and their monies. Others meanwhile, installed a bomb-like object for terrorist purposes.

Authorities claim that the defendant, and other unknown individuals, planed a fake bomb, and burned 5 tires near Tubli roundabout.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
