3-Year Prison Verdict against Defendant over Charges of "Illegal" Assembly in Sitra

Bahrain Mirror: The High Criminal Court ruled a 3-year imprisonment verdict against a defendant accused of causing fire and taking part in illegal assembly in Sitra.

In its ruling, the court said that due to the case's given circumstances, and since the defendant is still 15 years old, under the age of 18, the sentence was mitigated and reduced.

The court had accused the defendant of deliberately burning, along with other unknown individuals, movables, thus endangering the lives of people and their monies. He was also accused, with others, of taking part in an illegal assembly and possessing Molotov cocktails.

Authorities claim that the defendant, and other unknown suspects, gathered near a mosque in Sitra, for the purpose of disrupting public security, endangering people's lives and assaulting policemen.

It's noteworthy that the Fourth Criminal Court was introduced in July 2013, to contain the huge number of cases brought against protesters and activists, and to accelerate the issuance of harsh sentences against them, under the pretext of the Law on Terrorism.
