Bahrain Mirror: Well-known Bahraini Lawyer Taymour Karimi, who was stripped of his nationality, said that the authorities told him to choose either the Iraqi city of Najaf or Baghdad to be expelled to. He left on Sunday night (June 26, 2016) to the Najaf airport.
Karimi shared a picture of himself on board the airplane on social media.
The authorities had informed Karimi on Sunday (June 26, 2016) that he must leave Bahrain and that they decided to deport him to Iraq.
Karimi is one the Bahrainis whose nationalities were revoked in what was known as the "list of 31 persons stripped of their citizenships" by an Interior Ministry order issued on November 6, 2012.
It is noteworthy that the bank accounts of Taymour Karimi were frozen pursuant to the decree that stripped him of his nationality and he was informed by the Ministry of Justice that he is no longer allowed to practice his legal profession. Karimi was summoned to Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs department to hand over his passport and identity card. He was then accused of illegal residency in Bahrain, according to the Immigration and Residence Law. The court ordered his expulsion, also fining him 100 BD.
