Prison Authorities Inform Zainab Al-Khawaja that Judge Denied Decision to Release Her

Bahrain Mirror: Prominent Bahraini human rights activist, Zainab Al-Khawaja, who is currently imprisoned in Bahrain, received information on Wednesday (May 11, 2016) stating that the sentencing judge confirmed that there is no decision made to release her, according to a statements made by her sister Maryam Al-Khawaja on social media.

Maryam took to her personal Twitter account and said: "Zainab Alkhawaja had a meeting with the head of the prison today as well as the Russian prisoner who was mentioned in the statement," adding that "the head of prison told them that the statement was from the foreign ministry, and they are not obliged to follow."

 

 

Maryam further stated that the prison administration "met with the sentencing judge who also said there is no decision for a release."

 

 

The Bahraini authorities had announced on Monday (May 9, 2016) that "it has been decided that both of them (Zainab Al-Khawaja and Russian female inmate) will be released... taking into consideration their situation and humanitarian principles." Zainab Al-Khawaja is serving a 3-year prison term over charges of insulting the king.
