Bahraini Security Authorities Question Khalil Al-Marzooq over his Political Seminars during Ramadan

2015-07-02 - 12:40 am

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Bahraini security authorities summoned the Assistant Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq, Khalil Al-Marzooq, for questioning over the political meetings he held during Ramadan in a number of villages across the island kingdom.
Al-Marzooq was questioned about his last seminar in Al-Diraz village, held on June 27, 2015, despite the security forces' attempts to prevent it.

The authorities charged Al-Marzooq with insulting the Bahraini Ministry of Interior by mentioning in his seminar the events that took place in Jaw Central Detention, considering that he implied that acts of torture occurred inside the prison.

The authorities also charged Al-Marzooq with inciting hatred against the regime, based on another excerpt of the same seminar.

The Bahraini authorities even pursue the political gatherings to which Al-Wefaq is invited annually during the month of Ramadan in different villages across Bahrain. Al-Wefaq received official addresses banning it from conducting any similar activities, to pressure it into completely putting an end to its activities outside the society. Meanwhile, the chief of Al-Sanabis obsequies was also summoned for questioning at the police station over allowing Al-Marzooq to hold such a seminar in one of the religious centers in Al-Sanabis village.

It is worth mention that the Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Sheikh Ali Salman, used to deliver addresses annually in the political gatherings convened during Ramadan across the country. Sheikh Salman is now serving a four year sentence over his political discourse.
