Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Bahrain's Shiites have began establishing committees dedicated to protecting their mosques across the country since Friday (June 5, 2015). Meanwhile, as threats are on the rise after the attacks on two Shiite mosques in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain's ministry of interior deployed its security forces to the perimeter of large Shiite mosques across the island kingdom.
Units were deployed to the perimeter of Ras Ruman Mosque in the capital, Manama, after threats to attack it were posted on social media. Members of the interior ministry, which announced it is taking the threats seriously, were also positioned in the area.
Members of the committees were also stationed to the perimeter of Imam Sadiq Mosque, in Al-Diraz, Bahrain's most prominent mosque, where Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim used to lead the prayers before he became ill.
Thousands of Bahrainis took to the streets after Friday prayers to protest against the attacks on mosques in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, holding banners that read slogans denouncing terrorism.
The protestors called for the immediate release of Sheikh Ali Salman, Secretary-General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, whom the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reiterated their call for his release today (Friday, June 5, 2015).
