Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wasat newspaper reported that an unknown man shot live rounds at protesters marching through the streets of Al-Ma'ameer on Monday (May 25, 2015). One of the bullets pierced the showcase of one of the shops, with no injuries were reported. The village located between Jari Al-Sheik and A'ali witnessed a shooting by unknown people. The newspaper contacted the competent parties in order to receive an official statement regarding the incident, however, it could not get any response.
The newspaper reported an eyewitness saying: "At about 4:30 P.M., a protest was staged denouncing the terrorist bomb attack on Imam Ali Mosque in Al-Qadih. As soon as it reached the village's entrance, police forces fired tear gas at the protestors. Before the protest arrived, I noticed a black-colored Land Cruiser car parked there with no license plate. A few minutes later, I tried to find out why it was parked until the driver brought out a firearm from the vehicle and shot three bullets, but I turned away from them, and thanks God I did not get hurt. Then, the unknown man fled away."
"The sound of the live rounds were loud, thus, security patrols headed towards the location, but they couldn't find him because the unknown man had already fled away. A bullet pierced the facade of one of the shops (a cafeteria), although it was closed at that time," he added.
The newspaper stated that a Bahraini citizen "filed a report in the police station saying that two people fired rounds at him, indicating that they were throwing red bricks at his home, which caused the outside lighting to break."
The newspaper reported the plaintiff as saying, "Monday, about 9 o'clock P.M., I was cleaning my car in the house yard, located in the closed street between Jari Al-Sheik and A'ali. I heard the sound of a rock falling inside my home; I did not consider the matter since I thought it was caused by the children playing outside. It was but a few moments when a red brick fell and I heard the outside lighting break. I immediately went out to see what happened and saw two youths who were not older than 18 years. Once they saw me, they covered their faces."
"I went to them and asked why they were throwing stones towards my home. One of them answered me and said that he wants to hurt those living inside the house and that he will continue to do so under the pretext that some people are burning tires in the public street and that they are doing this as a reaction. I grabbed the hand of one of them and told him that I will tell the police. He; however, fearlessly, said that "the police are on our side" and the other said: "I will show him what we've got". He then took out a black firearm from his bag, which made me let his friend's hand go, fearing he'd hurt me. Afterwards, I went back home and after a few moments heard the sound of the firing of two bullets," he further stated.
He continued: "I went to the first floor and saw from the window that two people are sitting on the ancient hills facing my home. I immediately called the main operations chamber to report what happened. After my family arrived home-considering that I was home alone- my mother asked about the incident, for one of the pedestrians told her that he saw two people entering our home while one was holding a firearm. After about an half an hour, security patrols arrived to my home, surrounded it, conducted the needed investigations and inquired about the details of the incident."
He pointed out that he headed to the police station to have his statements written down in minutes and file a complaint against the unknown people, adding: "After I left the police station at about 3 A.M., my wife called me to inform me that there are two civilian cars driving around our home, and doing juvenile actions. So I returned to the officer in duty and told him about it. He promised to send a security patrol to check the situation and protect our house."
The citizen was surprised to see that unlicensed firearms are widely spread among teenagers, wondering, "Where do they get these firearms from? How can they simply reach our home without being arrested, especially that policemen are deployed in the opposite street?" expressing his concerns over being targeted along with his family more than once. He stressed that "this was not the first time that this area gets subjected to this kind of actions, for my uncle's car was previously shot at a night prior to this incident. In addition, one of the nearby homes was sabotaged, which means that the criminal acts of this group will continue amid the absence of any deterrent."
