Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini court on Wednesday (April 22, 2015) decided to extend the detention of Sheikh Ali Salman, postponing his trial until May 20, 2015. It was the fourth trial hearing since his arrest at the end of last year.
The court listened to seven testimonies, including the testimonies of opposition group leaders and activists, who stressed that "Sheikh Ali Salman supported peaceful methods throughout his entire political activism and that the charges against him are false."
Commenting on the court's decision, Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society considered it a major setback, adding that all "the requirements for the continuation of the trial are dropped now since the witnesses denied the charges in their testimonies."
"The trial is now groundless since it's based on the testimonies of police officers whose content is contradictory and Human Rights Watch have confirmed this and stated that authorities have so far "failed" to release evidence against Sheikh Salman."
Al-Wefaq also affirmed that the extension of Sheikh Salman's imprisonment and the continuation of his trial are no longer justifiable. It is considered a direct attack against peaceful political opposition action, calling for justice and democracy.
