The Egyptian Cairo Criminal Court sentenced on Sunday (August 28, 2022) Judge Sami Mahmoud Abdulrahim, who served as a judge in Bahrain for years and issued harsh sentences against Bahraini dissidents, to 24 years in prison, after being convicted in cases of bribery and possession of weapons and drugs.

The security authorities continued their harassment against the Shiite sect and removed Ashura manifestations in Salman City and Al-Houra, according to video clips taken by activists.

Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, largest political opposition society, said that the security authorities prevented Shiite citizens from leaving the country to visit holy sites in Iraq.

Al-Wefaq Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Hussein Al-Daihi criticized the Bahraini authorities' continued crackdown on Shiite citizens as they commemorate Ashura rituals, considering what is happening part of a "bigoted policy that has grown and expanded in recent years."

Political detainees at Jaw Central Prison said the prison administration officially prevented them from commemorating Ashura rituals on the grounds of "irregularities".

The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU) called to launch a social dialogue to discuss wage policies, social benefits and tax policies taking into account the living conditions of citizens.

Sayed Abdullah Al-Ghuraifi criticized the Bahraini authorities' clampdown on the Shiite sect and its practice of Ashura rituals, stressing that Ashura will never be an occasion for provocation or sedition and conflict at home.
